HUB50HOUSE EVENTS ALERT! NEW RESIDENT TIMMY SNEAKS MOVES INTO HUB50HOUSE — AND HOSTS ART SHOW AT HUB15

October 12, 2020

Mark this Hub50House event on your calendar. You don’t want to miss the Timmy Sneaks art show

What do Meghan Trainor, Kevin Hart, and Rob Kardashian have in common?

Answer: They have all purchased the wildly colorful paintings created by Timmy Sneaks, himself a celebrity in the world of modern creative and graffiti art. Now, the Boston mixed media artist has not only moved into Hub50House — he’s also putting on an art show on the 15th floor for his fellow members.

The Hub50House event, exclusive to residents, is scheduled to take place Oct. 21 at Hub15, the 14,000-square-foot amenity floor which includes Sneaks’ go-to space, a fully equipped gym with Peloton bikes, TRX system, and floor-to-ceiling windows.

“You get views of the Zakim [Bridge] when you work out!” says Sneaks, who has been called one of the most talented, influential, and culturally relevant artists of his time.

From Art Basel to Hub50House

For residents — or members as we call them around here — the Hub50House event will provide an intimate look at, and opportunity to purchase, Sneaks’ work which typically appears in much larger settings in major markets, from Los Angeles to New York.

A regular at Art Basel in Miami — where he has been seen spray painting Lamborghinis – Sneaks last year hosted “Mood Swings” at Yvonnes in Boston. True to his well-crafted personal brand, the show was designed to give his guests an experience in which his art played a fundamental role.  Guests entered the event through a secret door disguised as a bookshelf and, after walking down a graffiti-covered staircase, found themselves in a lively room with drinks, live DJ, and money hanging from the ceiling.

While Sneaks’ claim to fame is his trademark blend of bold colors and iconic pop characters on oversized canvases, the Hub50House show will feature a selection of smaller — but just as attention-grabbing — pieces.

“I normally do 4-by-4 but for this occasion, I’m putting together something more fitting for the space,” Sneaks says.

Instagram kicked off his career

Sneaks grew up in Malden and discovered his passion for art in high school. He initially set out to study industrial design before realizing he “hated the idea of being safe.” Determined to do “whatever it takes” to succeed, Sneaks — whose artistic name derives from his love of sneakers and old gangster movies — built a following on Instagram (@timmysneaks) that launched his career.

Sneaks still maintains a strong Instagram presence, letting his 92,700 followers in on the day-to-day art creation journey. In a recent photo, he poses with two pieces of cartoon-inspired art in The Living Room at Hub15, against the backdrop of the Boston skyline.

“To make it in this business, you have to have broad appeal,” Sneaks says. “I very much follow pop culture and thoroughly enjoy the icons and cartoons that come with it.”

He lived until recently in Salem in a house that doubled as his studio. But the lure of city living was calling and he started searching for an apartment in Boston.

“I looked at a lot of places and chose Hub50House,” Sneaks says. “The fact that it’s brand new, the location, the views — you get everything here.”
